History:2nd January 1820. Came down the river and passed Deal for Gibraltar???
10th November 1820. The brig ‘Rover’ unshipped her rudder???
19th November 1820. A gale of wind came on the 19th from the S.W. and lasted three days; 45 vessels, more or less, were destroyed and injured, fifty-six lives lost, the whole coast covered with wrecks; several English ships lost, amongst them the ship ‘Hercules’, brigs ‘Trafalgar’, ‘Argo’, ‘Rover’, ‘Achilles’, ‘Ann’, ‘Dispatch’ – a most distressing and ruinous sight! The River Plate rose fourteen feet higher than usual, the Mole washed away, several houses washed away, and the land for miles inundated???
